( honestly, he can explain all of the above away as acquaintences, because he's that reserved at heart and he's never confessed anything to Karkat that he'd be unable to handle having thrown back in his face. or perhaps that he'd be unwilling to have thrown back in his face. it's what he expects from the world.

no... what actually makes him think, "maybe Anya has a point," is three-fold: Anya had needed to point this out to him before; Karkat had used the word (pun or not) first; and Yuri does not imagine he'd run out of his shower early to text Dante a cat meme he'd just remembered, and he technically has texted, unfortunately talked to, thankfully not been in a group chat with, has unwanted mean spirited jokes with, has nicknames for, and absolutely dislikes for the disrespect that lay between them.

[ the overall bluntness of yuri's question takes him by surprise, which is weird considering karkat is pretty used to that bluntness. it's just being used in a different context than usual.

most of the people that karkat considers to be his friends were the type to drag him around until he eventually got hit with the realization that they're friends. he realizes that this is another case of that. ]
